As a nurse I fully understood the need for home care and the comfort it brought to so many families.
It wasn’t until a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s for my own mom that I truly felt the benefits on a very personal level.
Not only did the care givers care for my mom as the disease progressed, but the support they also provided to my dad as he gradually lost his wife of 65 years was an added layer of care I had not expected. My dad also grew to enjoy the companionship as well as my mom.
I knew my parents’ wishes were to remain in their home until death. Home care enabled me to honor those wishes.
I lost my mom in Aug. of 2016.
Though I miss her greatly, home care allowed me to give her the greatest gift of all- to stay safely in her home. There was no better way to say “thank you” and “I love you” to my mom than to allow her to live out her days in the comfort of her own home.
